James Brunelle is a 1978 Summa Cum Laude graduate who obtained his Bachelor of Science in Computer Science with one of the Old Dominion University's first Computer Science graduating classes. He also obtained his Masters Degree in Computer Science from ODU in 1986.

His career began as a programmer/analyst at Comptek Research where he spend eight years developing software for the U.S. Navy's shipboard Command and Control systems. He accepted a position with EDO Corporation in 1986 as a Systems Engineer and became responsible for leading a development team in the design and implementation of embedded automatic detection and tracking software for sonar systems. During his sixteen-year tenure at EDO Corporation, Jim advanced to the positions of Program Manager, Director of Programs, and to his current position, General Manager of EDO's Combat Systems Division.

Jim has maintained a close working relationship with the Old Dominion's Computer Science faculty throughout his career. He served as a member of the Computer Science Productivity Initiative board, which laid the groundwork for the establishing CS410 and 411 as an integral and essential component of Old Dominion's Computer Science curriculum. He also established an internship program at EDO Combat Systems that has provided a number of students with the opportunity to augment their academic studies with hands-on experience in software development for Command and Control and Sonar System applications.
