Education College Honors New Class of Darden Fellows
Old Dominion's Darden College of Education on Nov. 19 recognized the achievements of six outstanding graduates during its Darden Fellows awards. The annual event, part of the college's observance of American Education Week, was held at the Ted Constant Convocation Center.
The Darden Fellows program honors one graduate each from the education college's various departments. This year's Fellows were nominated by their academic departments and selected by the college. (more)
Old Dominion University's Darden College of Education this week launched the Virginia Early Childhood Policy Center (VECPC), whose mission will be to develop materials and conduct original research leading to positive changes in early childhood policy in the commonwealth.
The center, the only one of its kind in Virginia, will also provide useful information to parents, communities, schools and others directly involved with the well-being of young children. It is unique in the comprehensive approach it will bring to early childhood issues, one that will focus on education, health, family support services and special populations. (more)
It may be considered small by some standards, but Old Dominion University's Teacher Immersion Residency (TIR) program is paying off big in the eyes of area school administrators. In the short time it has been in existence, it has built a reputation for producing outstanding classroom teachers. (more)
Old Dominion University's Darden College of Education is ranked 65th in the nation in the U.S. News & World Report's 2014 edition of Best Graduate Schools. Each year, U.S. News ranks professional school programs in business, education, engineering, law and medicine. (more)
When Kathy Galford talks about the joys and rewards of teaching, it soon becomes apparent why she was an excellent choice to represent the commonwealth of Virginia as its Teacher of the Year for 2013.
Galford, who has taught for 24 years since earning a bachelor's degree from Old Dominion in 1984, clearly knows what it takes to be a good teacher, and she excels at her job. (more)
