About this Program

Now Enrolling for Fall 2026

Old Dominion University offers a Minor in Human Resource Management (HRM). HRM is a specialized area within business focused on the effective management of an organization’s workforce. Every organization, from small start-ups to large multinational corporations requires skilled HR professionals. The HRM minor is ideal for students who want to complement their major with the skills to manage the human side of organizations, fostering environments where individuals and teams can thrive. The curriculum includes foundational courses in human resource management and organizational behavior, with electives offering opportunities to gain specialized knowledge in areas such as employee compensation, HR analytics, performance management, and staffing.

Program Highlights

  • Occupations in the field of Human Resource Management are expected to grow at faster than average rates (5 – 8%) over the next 10 years.

  • Both on-campus and online classes are offered to meet student needs and provide flexibility.

  • Many students choose to complete internships to get real-world experience and earn course credit. Past students have interned with companies such as ADP, Amazon, Enterprise, Geico, TowneBank, and Huntington Ingalls Industries.

  • Students have numerous opportunities for professional development and networking through ODU’s Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) student chapter, which has strong ties to the Hampton Roads professional SHRM chapter and HRVirginia.
