Important Operations Information for Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2025
Due to winter weather, all locations of Old Dominion University will delay opening until 9:00a.m. on Tuesday, December 9, 2025.
Final Exams
All in person final exams previously scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2025, will now begin at 9:00 a.m. This includes exams held at any Old Dominion University campus location, as well as those scheduled at off-campus testing or proctoring centers, including Franklin, Roanoke, Charlottesville and locations outside Virginia. If a testing center is delayed due to local weather conditions, faculty will work with affected students to determine appropriate accommodations. The remainder of the day’s exams will take place as previously scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 9, including those rescheduled from Monday.
Exams rescheduled from Monday, Dec. 8 will take place today as follows: exams originally scheduled from 3:45 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 8 will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 9 from 3:45 p.m. to 6:45 p.m., and exams originally scheduled from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 8 will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 9 from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Please note that the rescheduled exam may be assigned to a different room than where the course was held. The Dec. 8 rescheduled exam locations can be found here.
Final exams for online asynchronous courses scheduled for 8:30 a.m. or later on Tuesday, Dec. 9 will still be held as originally planned. All online courses and all online final exams — whether asynchronous or synchronous — will continue as scheduled, as they are not impacted by the University’s delay. This includes asynchronous online course activities and asynchronous exams, as well as synchronous online final exams administered virtually. Because these activities occur online, they will proceed regardless of a student’s physical location.

Further Updates and Additional Information:
While University officials make operations decisions based on the forecast and best available information about roadways, sidewalks and travel, employees and students are urged to exercise caution when considering traveling to an ODU campus location or the need to leave early during times of inclement weather.
Essential personnel should report for duty as normal, unless advised otherwise by their supervisor. Other personnel may need to report for duty as requested by their supervisor. Where operationally feasible, the University encourages faculty and supervisors to exercise flexibility and sensitivity to requests from students and employees experiencing challenges during inclement weather.
In accordance with University Policy 1020: Closure of the University Due to Inclement Weather and Emergencies, “Employees who are scheduled to work remotely (telework) during the time of the emergency closure are expected to follow the guidance for employees outlined in the employee's Telework Agreement.” Therefore, previously scheduled remote employees shall continue to work their normal hours today, Tuesday, Dec. 9. In accordance with Department of Human Resource Management Policy 1.61: Teleworking, “Emergency closings of the central workplace may require expanded telework to meet customer demand and continuity of government services during an emergency closing. Agencies must communicate this expectation to employees when an emergency closing for inclement weather is anticipated, and again when a closing is announced.” Individuals with questions should contact their immediate supervisor for clarification.
University officials will continue monitoring weather conditions in close collaboration with the National Weather Service and state and local agencies. They will share updates, as they develop, via the ODU Alerts System, this webpage, social media pages and local news outlets.
