Pediatric Hematology & Oncology

Residents and students will learn to provide care for infants, children and adolescents with malignancies and/or blood disorders. Special procedures include:

  • Bone marrow aspirates and biopsies
  • Laboratory evaluation of bleeding and thrombotic disorders
  • Lumbar punctures
  • Platelet aggregation
  • Von Willebrand factor analysis
  • Stem-cell harvest
  • Treatment of disorders of the red blood cells

Pediatric Hematology and Oncology received the Chairman's Award for Excellence in Clinical Education in 2010. The division also received the Chairman's Award for Excellence in Pediatric Specialty Care for seven consecutive years (from 2005 through 2011).
