School of Health Professions Visiting Students (Non-MD/DO)
We offer experiential learning opportunities for students across a variety of health professions. All non-MD/DO students must complete the online Visiting Student Application to be considered. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed.
Once your application has been reviewed, the VHS Experiential Learning Office will notify you of the decision by email.

Application Process & Timeline
Applications must be submitted at least 45 days prior to the requested start date. All learning experiences require multiple levels of internal review and approval. Only complete applications will be reviewed. Please do not email departments directly for application status updates. Our students receive priority placement for all learning experiences.
If approved, you will receive onboarding instructions. All onboarding tasks must be completed and approved at least 30 days prior to your start date. A $150 visiting student fee will be due at that time, along with required health and compliance documentation (requirements may vary by program).
MD/DO Visiting Students
All MD/DO visiting students must apply through the Visiting Student Learning Opportunities (VSLO) system.
- Visiting MD/DO students must be currently enrolled and in good standing at a LCME or ACOA medical school located in the United States.
- Visiting fourth-year students may complete up to four weeks of electives.
- Most electives are four weeks in duration and follow a fixed block schedule.
- Electives are not available to third-year students.
- Our students receive priority for all electives.
VSLO Application Cycle
For the 2026–2027 academic year, the VSLO Elective Catalog opens January 30, 2026 and will begin accepting applications February 16th. Most elective offer notifications will begin after April 1, 2026.
Application Process & Timeline
MD/DO students must apply through VSLO at least 60 days before the start of your rotation. All requests must receive departmental approval before an offer is extended. This is completed internally. Please do not contact departments directly regarding placement or application status. The VHS Experiential Learning Office will notify applicants of acceptance or denial through VSLO.
If accepted:
- You must accept or decline the offer in VSLO within 7 days.
- Within 3–5 days of acceptance, you will receive a welcome email with onboarding instructions.
- All onboarding tasks and VSLO post-decision requirements must be completed and approved at least 30 days prior to the start date.
- A $200 visiting student fee will be collected during onboarding.
Your rotation is considered confirmed upon acceptance in VSLO; however, your VSLO status will not change to Offered Confirmed until all onboarding and documentation requirements have been reviewed and approved.
