Field Training

The Field Training Exercise (FTX) is a multi-day exercise held once per semester where the Monarch Battalion goes to Fort Eustis to conduct Land Navigation and squad/platoon-level Situational Training Exercise lanes where cadets continue to develop and hone their land navigation and tactical skills for Advanced Camp.

The Joint Field Training Exercise is a weekend-long exercise where the entire Battalion goes out to Fort Eustis to conduct joint training with neighboring university's ROTC programs. During JFTX, the cadets develop their critical thinking skills as well as their leadership capabilities in joint-integrated units. The JFTX happens once during the Spring semester. A typical JFTX consists of Land Navigation training, Platoon Operations, and Ruck Marches. If interested in attending, be sure to talk to your instructor.

The M4 Range is a single-day event held once per semester where the Monarch Battalion goes to Fort Eustis to conduct weapons familiarization and qualification with the M4 carbine for Advanced Camp. Prior to the range day, Cadets receive Preliminary Marksmanship Instruction where they learn the fundamentals of weapons safety, handling, and marksmanship.
