New faces arrived on the medical campus this week for New Student Orientation, taking place Aug. 6-8. The first orientation session includes approximately 175 students in the Doctor of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences - Medical (medical master's) programs.
A second orientation session will be held Aug. 20-22 for students in the Biomedical Sciences (Ph.D.), Biomedical Sciences – Research (M.S.), Counseling & Art Therapy (M.S.), Pathologists’ Assistant (M.S.H.P.A) and Surgical Assisting (M.S.A.) programs — part of Macon & Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences EVMS School of Health Professions at Old Dominion University.
During both sessions, Robert Fullilove, Ed.D., will give a keynote presentation entitled, “Cultural Humility and The Future of Medicine & Public Health.” Dr. Fullilove is the associate dean for community and minority affairs at Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health, professor of clinical sociomedical sciences at Columbia University Medical Center and co-director of the Cities Research Group.
A White Coat Ceremony for the MD Class of 2029 will be held Friday, Aug. 15 at Harrison Opera House.
