Windows 10 Upgrade to Version 1909
Even though (and especially because) the majority of our workforce is currently working remotely, we need to make sure all of our Windows 10 computers receive the Windows 10 1909 update. Since our computers are even more spread out than usual, we will handle the upgrade on every computer in one of two ways:
On-campus computers:
- We will push an update to your on-campus computer at either 6:00 or 10:00 p.m. on a date listed in the deployment schedule below.
- Make sure you save your work, log off and leave your computer powered on for your scheduled update.
- Your computer will automatically reboot.
Off-campus ODU-managed computers:
- You can manage this upgrade on your own, any time that is convenient to you, before May 22. (After May 22, we'll begin scheduling upgrades for you.)
- Open the Portal Manager, find Windows 10 1909 - Off Campus Upgrade, and click Install.
- Leave your computer powered on and allow it to restart as needed.
You should update your personally-owned computers using Microsoft's update instructions found here.
The update and reboot can take up to three hours, so make sure you don't need your computer during the update window.
Remember: Before any upgrade, it is a good idea to store important files in OneDrive and backup your browser bookmarks. (Always check the regulated data matrix before using cloud storage.) And if you have any issues with the upgrade, contact the ITS Help Desk.
Deployment schedule
This is a tentative schedule and is subject to change. All deployments start at 6:00 p.m. (Admin devices) or 10:00 p.m. (Acad devices) on the scheduled date, followed by a forced reboot.
