The Project Management Office (PMO) champions consistent project management practices which help Old Dominion University fulfill its mission and strategic goals. The PMO is a strategic functional unit which promotes and advances Project Management principles and services. The PMO facilitates intake of project requests, reviews the request, meets with appropriate IT staff to determine technical feasibility and approach, works with customer and IT for estimate of effort, and presents the request to IT governance for review and prioritization.

The PMO oversees IT projects for Old Dominion University. The office coordinates four major project-related areas in IT:

  • Portfolio Management: Project and resource tracking and reporting
  • Demand Management: Project intake and governance review
  • Project Leadership: Project management of select enterprise-wide projects
  • Project Management Support: Training, tools, and templates to support project management methodology

Our professionally certified project managers provide leadership and guidance for University and IT projects. Through consulting, managing and monitoring selected projects, the PMs facilitate progress in order to meet our customers' expectations for project scope, costs, schedule and final deliverables. The PMO is staffed by two full-time Project Managers and coordinates the work of up to 40 departmental Project Managers who manage projects as part of their regular duties.
