Data Intelligence & Analytics (DIA) is a team of data professionals dedicated to supporting Old Dominion University by collecting, analyzing, and interpreting institutional data to inform strategic decision-making and improve student outcomes. We transform data into actionable insights that support planning, performance, and impact across all areas of the University.

Mission

We unite data from across Old Dominion University and beyond to create reliable, accessible, and actionable intelligence. By integrating institutional systems with broader research, workforce, and community insights, we support excellence in teaching, advance innovation in research, strengthen workforce and economic development, and provide leaders with the evidence needed to guide strategy and policy.

Vision

To be the trusted source of institutional intelligence that transforms data into knowledge, empowers decision-making, and demonstrates Old Dominion University’s impact on students, trainees, communities, and the world.

Our Focus Areas

The Office of Institutional Research serves as the authoritative source for official institutional data, adhering to established reporting protocols and industry best practices. The team is dedicated to maintaining compliance with state, federal, and other external reporting mandates. Additionally, they collaborate with various stakeholders to manage reputational surveys, ensuring that all submissions are accurate, comprehensive, and reflective of our institution’s standards of excellence.

The Recruitment Outcomes & Retention (ROAR) pod leverages student data and analytical methods to generate insights about digital marketing, admissions, enrollment, retention, student success, and graduation. ROAR delivers high-quality datasets, reports, visualizations, and dashboards to support daily operations, inform decisions, evaluate initiatives, and assess institutional and student success.

The Workforce & Economic Impact Pod transforms data into actionable intelligence that demonstrates how ODU’s graduates, residents, and fellows contribute to the workforce; how research and innovation advance health, industry, and discovery; and how the University strengthens community well-being, resilience, and economic growth. By integrating institutional data with state, national, and global benchmarks, this unit equips ODU leaders with trusted insights to guide decisions and strategy, while also providing policymakers, donors, and partners with the evidence needed to anticipate challenges, shape investment, and advocate with confidence.

The Administration Pod provides a unified, efficient, and secure framework for managing, sharing, and governing HR, facilities, and finance data to improve decision-making, compliance, and operational efficiency.

Data Governance provides a structured framework of policies, standards, and practices designed to ensure that data across the institution is accurate, secure, and used responsibly. It treats data as a strategic asset, establishing clear accountability and fostering quality and transparency. By promoting trusted information, Data Governance supports informed decision-making, ensures compliance, and drives innovation within the organization.
