Our Purpose
The Dr. LD Britt Premedical Scholars Program identifies cohorts of premedical students in their first year at historically black colleges and universities with whom Macon & Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences at Old Dominion University has established early identification (BS/MD) programs. The goal is to engage and support the students towards entry into the health professions programs here as well as with other medical programs.
Eligibility
- College Freshman.
- Excellent academic standing.
- Interest in pursuing health professions.
- Interest and evidence of service to community, particularly underserved communities.

About L. D. Britt, MD, MPH
- Dr. Britt is a general and acute care surgeon, professor of surgery, and chair of the Department of Surgery at EVMS.
- Dr. Britt is a leader in academic surgery and has received numerous awards for his outstanding contributions to medical education, including the Robert J. Glaser Distinguished Educator Award, the highest teaching award in medicine given by the Association of American Medical Colleges.
- Dr. Britt is the first African-American in the nation to have an endowed chair in surgery.
