ODU's culture of assessment relies on faculty-driven assessment practices. Faculty lead the efforts within each of the four phases of the General Education assessment plan.

With the assistance of the assessment team:

  • Planning phase - faculty review, revise, and, if appropriate, develop outcomes for general education, faculty select embedded, authentic assessments within the courses that align with the general education outcomes.
  • Assessing phase - faculty select and develop common instruments, faculty read and rate the assessment artifacts, and faculty provide actionable recommendations based on the assessment results.
  • Reporting phase - faculty distribute, review, and discuss the assessment results.
  • Improving phase - faculty determine and implement changes that are needed based on the assessment results.
