Department of ArtJuried Student Exhibition

The Baron and Ellin Gordon Art Galleries and ODU Art Department welcome submissions for the Juried Student Exhibition

The Juried Student Exhibition staged in the Gordon Galleries is a major event in the academic life of the Art Department. A juror is invited to select entries to the exhibition and the choices they make reflect their own professional experience, judgment and taste. The juror is usually a renowned artist, a museum curator or an owner of a professional gallery, often with links to the Department and the University. As well as selecting the submissions, the juror awards a distinction of Best in Show to a student who then goes on to have a solo show in the Vestibule 102 in the Perry Glass Art Studio, of the Chrysler Museum of Art in Norfolk. All other works in the exhibition are also considered for the Dean's Selection Exhibition, which goes on view for one year in the Dean's office suite (BAL 9th Floor) following the Juried Student Exhibition.

This exhibition is open to all students taking classes in the Art Department during the submission period. All media will be considered, and students are encouraged to submit up to five (5) works for consideration by the juror. For this exhibition, a series of pieces will be considered as a single work, space permitting. Artwork not previously exhibited in the Gordon Art Galleries is strongly preferred.

Initial submissions are electronic, but accepted work should be delivered to the Baron and Ellin Gordon Art Galleries during normal hours of operation listed on the website.

This is a professional exhibition. Artwork must arrive installation-ready with all appropriate hardware included. Two-dimensional artwork is preferably framed, and if framed must include wire for hanging. If the work is meant to be displayed in an alternative manner, all necessary installation materials and instructions must be provided. Three-dimensional artwork will be displayed on pedestals provided by the Gordon Galleries. Artwork not installation-ready will not be included in the exhibition even if selected by the juror. Any and all questions regarding installation and display methods should be directed to Gordon Galleries' staff. The Baron and Ellin Gordon Art Galleries cannot fund any shipping expenses for this exhibition.

All submissions are due by the time specified on the Galleries website.
