Welcome from the Secretary-General to ODUMUNC 47, 15-18 February 2024
Esteemed Delegates, Faculty and Guests,
My secretariat and I are pleased to welcome you to the 2024 session of Old Dominion University's Model United Nations Conference, ODUMUNC 47, at the Norfolk Sheraton Waterside hotel.
ODUMUNC 47 benefits from a milestone in the history of Old Dominion University. In 2022 ODU was rated an R1 institution, among the top 5 percent of all universities for research. Home to the Center for Coastal Physical Oceanography and the Mitigation & Adaptation Research Institute (MARI), ODU has a bright history of research into the most significant environmental challenges facing humanity. For these reasons, our conference theme this year is Adaptation and Mitigation amid a Climate Crisis. You will see this reflected in our committees and topics.
Model UN is a gracious experience not just for those wishing to enter international relations, but also to develop skills in diplomacy and problem-solving with wide-reaching relevance. We look forward a conference featuring innovative and creative solutions from delegates, as they tackle some of the gravest challenges faced by the Member States of the United Nations today.
We wish all of delegates and delegations the best of luck preparing. We are excited to welcome you back for our 47th year in a row, and look forward to seeing you in February.
