ODU TCEP Director gives InventEd Webinar on Identity Exploration in Invention Education

The Director of the Center for Educational Partnerships, Joanna Garner, facilitated and led an InventEd discussion panel webinar on Equitable Inventive Identity Exploration on May 12, 2022. The panel included various experts in the fields of invention and identity formation, and discussed different contexts in which the formation of an inventive identity can form as well as barriers and challenges faced.

In this webinar recording, Executive Director Dr. Joanna Garner hosts an expert panel to advance our understanding of how to design learning environments that promote diverse audiences' exploration of what it means to describe oneself as inventive - in other words, to develop an inventive identity that supports problem finding, problem solving, and persistence in innovation activities across multiple contexts and roles. Panel members Dr. Avi Kaplan of Temple University, Dr. Jeff Brodie of the Smithsonian Institution and the Lemelson Center for the Study of Invention and Innovation, and Ms. Alaina Rutledge and Dr. Erica Matheny of the National Inventors Hall of Fame, address design principles, applications, and research findings pertaining to inventive identity exploration in museum and K-12 settings. The webinar was hosted by InventEd, which you can learn more about by visiting www.inventioneducation.org.
