TCEP Faculty Present “Tools for TEAMS” at the DoDEA Mid-Atlantic Regional Conference in February 2021

The Department of Defense Education Agency's Mid-Atlantic Region held its annual conference virtually on February 17-18, 2021. One of the breakout sessions featured a presentation from two faculty members from The Center for Educational Partnerships, Dr. Shanan Chappell Moots and Dr. Joanna Garner. The presentation, titled "Tools for TEAMS (Teaching, Evaluation, and Advocacy for Military-connected Students," highlighted collaborations with school districts and educational service organizations and provided information on instruments and tools to measure educational activities, progress, and outcomes. In addition, Drs. Chappell Moots and Garner offered examples for using data to inform practice and shared ideas for dissemination of findings to benefit educators and students.

The instruments and tools discussion introduced several measures to assess programming and included an in-depth presentation of the Quality of Transition Instrument (QTI), a valid and reliable measure of wellbeing for students experiencing school-to-school transition. Designed for use in schools with large populations of military-connected students, the QTI is a brief survey that educators can use when supporting those at risk of academic and social-emotional challenges due to mobility.

Contact Dr. Shanan Chappell Moots at schappel@odu.edu or 757-683-6957 for more information on this presentation or for details on methods for serving schools with large populations of military-connected students.
