- Late 2021–2022: University-wide strategic planning process
- August 2022: Pilot of full asynchronous and accelerated courses for four academic programs
- October 2022: Presidential inaugural address, Forward-Focused: Inspiring Innovation
- December 2022: Strategic plan approval, Forward-Focused: Where Innovation Meets Possibilities, which includes strategies and goals with key performance indicators for accelerated programs, as well as rolling start times and shorter "semesters"
Implementation and Faculty-Led Development (2023–2024)
- January 2023: Strategic plan implementation
- April 2023: Budget Summit held with various recommendations, such as (1) embracing the digital enterprise and immersive new technologies, such as artificial intelligence, or AI, by leveraging, accepting, understanding, and applying it to all facets of the University; (2) diversifying student enrollment to include specialized pathways for high school and community college students, as well as the military (active duty and veterans); and (3) expanding innovative programming and develop flexible course options to pursue credentialing and continuing education opportunities, such as stackable credentials and certificates, market-driven degree offerings, and a stronger emphasis on adult learners
- June 2023: Enterprise-wide customer relationship management (Salesforce) implementation
- Fall 2023: AI implementation faculty workgroup established to create engagement with and voice of the faculty
- January 2024: Enterprise system modernization (data, ERP, and SIS)
- February 2024: Mobility Mindset Initiative announced with initial focus on 20 academic programs for accelerated, flexible learning models
- Spring 2024: MonarchMind AI platform developed and designed; AI research faculty workgroup established; and XR labs and active learning classroom technologies explored to create engagement with and voice of the faculty
- June 2024: Google Public Sector partnership design discussions began
Expansion, Validation, and Scale (2024–2026)
- August 2024: Expansion of asynchronous accelerated pilot to 20 programs via Mobility Mindset Initiative
- Fall 2024: MonarchMind piloted and AI teaching fellows selection and established
- January 2025: Google research and AI tool pilots began; MonarchMind campus-wide faculty rollout; and launch of 8-Week asynchronous certificates developed by AI teaching fellows
- February 2025: Forward-Focused inaugural event held, which shared continued execution of a broader, multi-year plan that began with the strategic plan and expanded with the Mobility Mindset Initiative
- July 2025: Strategic plan mid-point summary issued
- Summer 2025: FFDT expansion and funding request for Board of Visitors
- October 2025: Launch of MonarchSphere, a first-of-its-kind AI incubator with Google
- Fall 2026: Full rollout of 8-week asynchronous online courses for fully online bachelor’s and master’s programs
