CLT Faculty Summer Conference: May 22-23

The upcoming Center for Learning and Teaching's Faculty Summer Conference will feature Michelle Miller, director of the First Year Learning Initiative at Northern Arizona University, as keynote speaker.

The 20th annual event, "Ahead of the Curve: How ODU is Shaping the Online Learning Landscape" will be held May 22-23, at the Ted Constant Convocation Center. This conference is an excellent opportunity for attendees to reflect, teach, share, inspire and connect with each other and with the community.

In addition to being director of the First-Year Learning Initiative, Miller is a professor in the Department of Psychological Sciences at Northern Arizona University. She co-created the First Year Learning Initiative at Northern Arizona University, and is active in course redesign and serves as a redesign scholar for the National Center for Academic Transformation.

Miller is the author of "Minds Online: Teaching Effectively with Technology" (Harvard University Press, 2014), and has written about evidence-based pedagogy in scholarly as well as general-interest publications including College Teaching, Change: The Magazine of Higher Learning and The Conversation. Her current work focuses on using psychological principles to help instructors create more effective and engaging learning experiences and to help students become more active learners.

Ahead of the Curve will highlight ODU's on-going innovation, creativity, and leadership in designing effective online programs and courses. As part of the Office of Distance Learning, the Center for Learning and Teaching (CLT) staff leverages research-based practices to design compelling and engaging online learning experiences while providing ongoing support and opportunities for faculty to share and learn from each other.

Full-time faculty and adjunct faculty members are encouraged to participate in the 2018 Faculty Summer Conference.
