U.S. News and World Report Ranks Old Dominion Among the ‘Best Online Programs’

Old Dominion University is one of the best colleges and universities in the nation for distance learning education, according to U.S. News and World Report's 2018 Best Online Programs rankings that were released Jan. 9.

The rankings include public and private colleges and universities with degree-granting programs offering online classes. Categories include bachelor's programs and graduate programs in business, information technology, criminal justice, education, engineering and nursing.

"Out of all of the public doctoral research institutions in Virginia, Old Dominion has by far the largest online operation in terms of both numbers of programs and student enrollment," said Andy Casiello, associate vice president for distance learning.

ODU ranked among the top 100 institutions in the categories of Best Online Bachelor's Programs, Best Online MBA Programs and Best Online Education Programs.

The University was also recognized for Best Online Information Technology Programs. Additionally, ODU rose in the engineering and nursing categories by three spots from the previous year.

Old Dominion's rankings are:

  • No. 33 (tie), Best Online Information Technology Programs, information systems, computer science, computer engineering and software engineering, (out of 55);
  • No. 42 (tie), Best Online Engineering Programs (out of 93);
  • No. 58 (tie), Best Online Nursing Programs (out of 159);
  • No. 66 (tie), Best Online Bachelor's Programs (out of 357);
  • No. 68 (tie), Best Online MBA Programs (out of 282); and
  • No. 83 (tie), Best Online Education Programs (out of 309)

U.S. News and World Report assessed schools based on criteria such as student engagement; student services and technology; admissions selectivity; faculty credentials and training; and peer reputation.
