Gov. McAuliffe Announces Board of Visitors Appointments

Gov. Terry McAuliffe has reappointed a current member and appointed a new member to serve on Old Dominion University's Board of Visitors.

In a Jan. 5 announcement, Gov. McAuliffe designated Robert M. Tata, of Virginia Beach, to remain on the board to complete the term of Frank Reidy, who resigned on Dec. 31, 2017. Tata will serve through June 30, 2019.

The governor had originally asked Tata, who has been on the board since 2013, to stay through Dec. 31, 2017, to serve in place of Aubrey Layne. Layne had been appointed to Old Dominion's board in June but could not serve until he stepped down this month as the state's secretary of transportation.

However, Layne was recently appointed by Gov.-elect Ralph Northam to be his secretary of finance, making Layne ineligible to serve on ODU's board.

McAuliffe has named Robert Corn to serve the remainder of Layne's term, which will end on June 30, 2021.

"I am pleased that Robert Tata will continue to be an experienced influence on the board and a dedicated advocate for the University," said President John R. Broderick. "In addition, I look forward to working with Robert Corn and the new ideas and energy he will contribute. He has a son who recently graduated from Old Dominion, so he brings to the board the perspective of a parent from Northern Virginia."

Tata serves as a member of the Executive, Student Enhancement & Engagement, and Audit Committees, and as chair of the Administration & Finance Committee. He is the managing partner of the Norfolk office of the international law firm of Hunton & Williams. He received his master's degree in business administration from Old Dominion in 1986.

Corn, of Springfield, is president of Landmark Strategies Inc.
