About this Program

Old Dominion University offers a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree in management with a major in human resource management. HRM is a specialized area within business that focuses on attracting, developing, and retaining an organization’s workforce. Every organization, from small start-ups to large multinational corporations, relies on skilled HR professionals to support employees and organizational success.

An HRM major is well suited for students interested in careers such as human resource management, talent management, employee relations, compensation and benefits, organizational development, and human capital consulting. The HRM curriculum is SHRM-academically aligned, meaning coursework reflects nationally recognized professional standards and competencies expected of today’s HR practitioners.

Given the evolving nature of work and a changing workforce, the HRM major at ODU is designed to equip students with a strong foundation in human resource strategies and practices, preparing them to succeed in a wide range of organizational settings both now and in the future.

Program Highlights

  • Occupations in the field of Human Resource Management are expected to grow at faster than average rates (5 – 8%) over the next 10 years.

  • ODU’s SHRM-academically aligned curriculum, offered both in-person and online, prepares students with competencies valued by HR employers and qualifies graduates to sit for the SHRM-CP exam.

  • Both in-person and online classes are offered to meet student needs.

  • Many students choose to complete internships to get real-world experience and earn course credit. Past students have interned with companies such as ADP, Amazon, Enterprise, Geico, TowneBank, and Huntington Ingalls Industries.
