ODU's Annual Pre-Collegiate Summer Dance Intensive

8 a.m.-3 p.m.

The Old Dominion University's Pre-Collegiate Summer Dance Intensive is a week-long summer dance intensive for the focused and open-minded dance student. Students work directly with ODU's internationally recognized and award-winning dance faculty in rigorous studio practices to build technique. Geared to studios, dance programs, their pre-collegiate high school students, and collegiate students transferring into the ODU Dance Program, this five-day intensive offers technique in Hip Hop, Ballet, Modern/ Contemporary, Jazz, Aerial Dance, Pilates and Yoga.

ODU's Annual Pre-Collegiate Summer Dance Intensive

June 21-25, 2021

8 am-3 pm

Geared to studios, dance programs, their pre-collegiate high school students, and collegiate students transferring into the ODU Dance program, this five-day intensive offers the opportunity to participate in dynamic studio practices that feature a variety of classes in Hip Hop, Ballet, Modern/Contemporary, Aerial, Screen Dance, and more.

Students work directly with ODU's internationally recognized and award-winning dance faculty in rigorous studio practices to build technique in a supportive work environment. Four classes a day, with lunch between, are held in the state of the art dance studios located in the Diehn Center for the Performing Arts.

University Dance Theatre Fall Concert

Experience an unforgettable evening of diverse works as emerging and established artists expand the boundaries of dance. The University Dance Theatre Fall Concert presents original choreography in a variety of dance styles, such as modern dance, jazz, hip hop and contemporary ballet, performed by Old Dominion University students.

This fall our concert features the work of guest artist Cameron McKinney whose work blends streetdance with contemporary floorwork to create dances that celebrate the Japanese culture. For more information visit cameronmckinneydance.com

Rebecca R. Levy, Artist-in-Residence

When professional dancer and choreographer Rebecca R. Levy moved to Jacksonville, Florida from Los Angeles in 2010, she arrived to a beautiful southern city filled with arts and culture, but no professional dance company. In 2012, she co-founded and became the artistic director of Jacksonville Dance Theatre. In a recent presentation for TEDx, she gave a talk titled "Engaging A Movement" about her experiences founding JDT and advocating for professional dance in Jacksonville.

She will speak about her experiences in launching a non-profit performing arts organization in a town where modern dance companies traditionally could not be sustained, and what it involves to create what one needs to thrive in the space that one currently lives in.
