Adobe is updating the way we assign serial licenses for Adobe Acrobat DC Professional. Anyone whose job requires the continued use of Acrobat Pro will need to request a new user-assigned license that will be associated with your MIDAS ID and password. (Please note, if you have a Creative Cloud license, Acrobat Pro is included. You do not need to request a separate license.)

As part of the monthly security patches in October, the serial number for Acrobat Pro licenses will be removed from all computers. If you do not request a user-assigned license (fill out the form on this page), your MIDAS ID and password will not open Acrobat Pro. Your license will not automatically transfer.

To continue using Acrobat Pro

Fill out this form before your monthly patch date so we can assign a license to your MIDAS ID and you can log in to Acrobat Pro without interruption. After we remove the serial number from your computer, you'll be asked to sign in the next time you open Acrobat Pro. Learn more about the login process here.

To switch to Acrobat Reader

If you don't use any of the features of Acrobat Pro, you don't need to request a license. You can use Acrobat Reader instead. Open Ivanti Portal Manager (Windows) or Jamf Self Service (Mac) on your ODU-managed computer and install the item called "Adobe Acrobat Reader." This will uninstall Acrobat Pro from your computer and replace it with Acrobat Reader.

Do you need a pro license?

Many PDF functions are available in the free version of Acrobat -- Acrobat Reader -- which is installed on all ODU-managed devices. This may be all you need. Compare the features of Acrobat Reader with those of Acrobat Pro:

Acrobat Reader Features

  • Open PDFs in Acrobat and in browsers like Chrome, Firefox and Edge.
  • Export PDFs from Microsoft Office documents.
  • Create PDFs from any other software using Print to PDF.
  • Fill, print and save existing fillable PDF forms.
  • Digitally sign signature-enabled PDFs.

Acrobat Pro Features

  • Convert existing PDFs to editable Word or Excel documents.
  • Combine multiple PDFs into a single file.
  • Convert a scanned document to text.
  • Create fillable forms and forms that require digital signatures.
