Our Research Computing Services offer the infrastructure and support you need, whether you're doing desktop computations or collaborating with colleagues around the world.

GIS/Visualization
Students now have the opportunity to specialize in geographical information. This system provides geographically referenced material that will capture, store, update, manipulate, analyze and display all geographic data that is designed to give students the basic knowledge and analytical skills on this subject.

High Performance Computing
ITS supports the university's research computing needs by providing high performance computing clusters, data analytics environments and storage for research data. These systems are available for use by university researchers and students to advance the university's research goals.

Cloud-based Research Computing
ODU has a robust cloud offering utilizing the Amazon Web Services cloud infrastructure. Cloud resources are ideal for flexible, scalable research computing workloads, and AWS has many resources pre-built for specific research application types.

Networking
Information Technology Services (ITS) at ODU maintains a robust, broadband, high-speed communications network.

UNIX/LIONS
LIONS (Large Integrated Online Networked Services) is the Linux/UNIX environment created primarily for academic computing. A LIONS account is needed to access the "General Purpose" Linux/UNIX resources supported by ITS.
