Panel to Discuss First Amendment History, Philosophy, Development

A panel discussion exploring freedom of speech will showcase the First Amendment expertise of four ODU faculty members, each from a different discipline.
"First Amendment History, Philosophy and Development" will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Feb. 24 in Batten Arts & Letters 1012.
Featured on the program will be:
Michael Carhart, associate professor, history
Dennis Gregory, associate professor, higher education and community college leadership
Michelle M. Kundmueller, assistant professor, political science
Dale Miller, professor, philosophy; associate dean, research and graduate studies
The presenters will offer remarks and take questions from the audience. Faculty members, administrators, staff, students and community members are invited to attend.
"Obviously, First Amendment issues are a concern of the general society today," Gregory said.
As Provost's Fellow for the First Amendment, he is also presenting brown-bag discussions this semester. The Jan. 28 event was focused on the link between academic freedom and freedom of expression.
