Description: This workshop breaks down two of the most stressful parts of the graduate school process: writing about yourself and asking faculty for letters of recommendation. In the first half, students will learn how to write personal statements that feel authentic and confident, without oversharing, minimizing their achievements, or feeling uncomfortable “selling themselves,” especially as first-generation scholars. In the second half, students will learn how to choose the right recommenders, ask at the right time, and support faculty with materials that lead to strong, personalized letters.
