Vukica Jovanović and a team of co-authors were awarded a Best Diversity Paper Award by the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) - Ocean and Marine Engineering Division.

The paper was submitted as part of the 2021 ASEE Annual Conference.

Old Dominion University co-authors included students Jeff Warren Larson Jr., Abdul Rahman Badawi and Neil St. Clair, and professors Otilia Popescu, Murat Kuzlu, Linda Vahala and Petros Katsioloudis.

Deborah Marshall and Michael Anthony Crespo from the Norfolk Public Schools were co-authors as well.

The paper examines a mentorship program between a local high school and Old Dominion University college students and how that program successfully helped future engineering students establish their engineering and future STEM identities.

The paper, "Mentoring Prospective Engineering Students Through the After School Program "Girls in Engineering" Focused on Building an Underwater Remotely Operated Vehicle," can be found here.
