ODU doctoral candidates, faculty, and alumni from the Department of Educational Foundations and Leadership were on this year's program for the Council for the Study of Community Colleges (CSCC) conference held March 31 through April 2 in Tempe, Ariz.

CSCC is an affiliate of the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) and a project of the Center for the Study of Community Colleges. CSCC meets annually as a community of scholars, leaders and practitioners dedicated to the study of the community college enterprise.

The annual conference serves as a forum for professors, graduate students, community college practitioners and others interested in research and scholarship on topics involving or related to the community college. This year's theme was, "Realizing Equity in and through Community Colleges".

The highlighted research projects include:

  • A Comparison of Impostor Phenomenon in Community College and Four-Year University Students - Shanda Jenkins (PhD of Community College Leadership, 2021) and Mitchell Williams, associate professor.
  • Sustainability Discourses and Recontextualization in Community Colleges - Minghui Hou (Higher Education doctoral candidate) and David F. Ayers, associate professor.
  • The Unique Experiences of African American Women that Impact Entry to the Community College Presidential Pipeline - Dana Stilley (PhD of Community College Leadership, 2021) and Mitchell Williams.
  • Starting a Knowledge Map of Community College Dissertations: A Probabilistic Topic Modeling Analysis - Kimberley Cossey (Higher Education doctoral candidate) and David F. Ayers.
  • Narratives from Appalachia: The Current Stories of LGBTQ Community College Students - Todd Cimino-Johnson (PhD of Community College Leadership, 2021) and Mitchell Williams.

"CSCC is a prestigious venue for scholars of community college leadership," shared Shana Pribesh, chair of the Educational Foundations and Leadership Department. "We are so proud that five very talented community college leadership students presented groundbreaking work at CSCC while being supported by excellent mentors, Drs. Williams and Ayers."

Proposals for CSCC are blind reviewed. Old Dominion University was a Double Diamond Sponsor for this year's conference.
