Areas of Study
ODU's coastal engineering program focuses on the interaction between built and natural environments along coastlines and the open ocean. Students and researchers address coastal processes, hazards, resilience and engineering challenges facing communities.
Students in environmental and water resources engineering learn to address real-world challenges involving water quality, wastewater, hydrology, pollution, sustainability and the protection of natural resources.
Students in geotechnical engineering learn how soil and other earth materials affect the design and safety of foundations and infrastructure. They explore topics such as soil mechanics, geologic hazards and earthquake engineering.
Design and analyze buildings, bridges and other structures while exploring how they perform under everyday conditions and withstand natural and other hazards. Areas of study include structural integrity, resilience and innovative approaches to safer, stronger structures.
Explore how people and goods move through communities using roads, bridges, transit and intelligent transportation systems. Areas of study include transportation operations, management, safety and emerging technologies.
