We’re seeking:
March 26 - Ballad of Little Jo (1993)
Speakers with academic expertise in gender and race in the Western; trans histories, ethnographies, or biographies, particularly that of Joe Monaghan; Asia and Asian Americans in the History of the US West; or other relevant expertise
We also seek to collaborate with student organizations or academic departments on adjacent programming and welcome the submission of short works by local trans and AAPI filmmakers, musicians, or performers for this screening. Any filmmakers or performers with short works (film or music) that speak to the themes of Ballad of Little Jo are encouraged to reach out to rbwilson@odu.edu.
April 14 - Back to the Future III (1990)
Speakers with academic expertise in nostalgia and futurities; the speculative Western; Michael J. Fox; sequels and franchises; or other relevant expertise
We also seek to collaborate with student organizations or academic departments on adjacent programming, particularly related to Parkinson’s awareness, and welcome the submission of short works by local filmmakers, musicians, or performers with disabilities for this screening. Any filmmakers or performers with short works (film or music) that speak to the themes of the Back to the Future franchise are encouraged to reach out to rbwilson@odu.edu.
May 19 - Westworld (1973)
Speakers with academic expertise in race and gender in the speculative Western or speculative fiction more broadly; robots, androids, gynoids, and cyborgs; those who have done work on the Westworld HBO series; or other relevant expertise
We also seek to collaborate with student organizations or academic departments on adjacent programming, particularly around robotics and AI, and welcome the submission of short works by local filmmakers, musicians, or performers that employ innovative technologies for this screening. Any filmmakers or performers with short works (film or music) that speak to the themes of Westworld are encouraged to reach out to rbwilson@odu.edu.
