Science Communication: The Basics

Scientists constantly engage in science communication, but are they doing it effectively? How can you improve the way you communicate your science and your research?

Science communication is the practice of communicating science-related topics to non-experts. This workshop by Dr. Michelle Covi will cover the basics of science communication and draws from her extensive experience communicating sea level rise science and her community outreach work in climate adaptation and resilience.

About the presenter:

Dr. Michelle Covi is a coastal resilience DOD liaison with the University of Georgia’s Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant. She has a master’s degree in zoology and a PhD in coastal resources management. Dr. Covi spent six years as an assistant professor of practice in the Department of Ocean, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at ODU and as a Virginia Sea Grant extension partner.
