The Transcript Petition process provides students who have successfully returned from their academic suspension an opportunity to petition for the removal of the suspension notation from their academic transcript.
The process recognizes students who demonstrate meaningful academic recovery, complete required academic success interventions, and actively engage with their academic support network following readmission.
Approval of a Transcript Petition is not automatic. Eligible students must submit a petition and demonstrate that they have successfully met all established eligibility requirements. Petitions will be reviewed in accordance with the procedures established by the Office of Academic Recovery and Support.
Eligibility Requirements
A student may submit a Transcript Petition to remove their academic suspension notation from their academic transcript when the student demonstrates a successful return from suspension. A granted transcript petition will only be applied to a students academic transcript one (1) time in their ODU academic career. The student must have completed the term for which they were readmitted and demonstrated compliance with the conditions of their academic recovery plan, as follows:
- Suspension Requirement
The student is petitioning their first, or second academic suspension. Students who are suspended for their third time are not eligible to petition the removal of a subsequent suspension notation. A student suspended for the third time is not eligible to return to the university. - Term GPA Requirement
The student earned a minimum term GPA of 2.00 in the academic term in which they were readmitted following their suspension period. - Academic Success Course Requirement
The student has successfully and completely fulfilled all required academic success course/program requirements associated with their return from suspension. - Academic Recovery Advising Requirement
The student met with their academic advisor at least once during the 8-week term, and twice during the 16-week term in which they were readmitted following suspension. These meetings must be documented through the university's established advising processes.

Petition Submission Timeline
Students who meet all eligibility requirements may submit a Transcript Petition following successful completion of the academic term in which they were readmitted from suspension.
A Transcript Petition must be submitted within one academic year of the student's successful completion of the readmission term. Petitions submitted after this deadline will not be considered.
Petition Process
The petition must include:

A completed Transcript Petition form;

A statement explaining the student's academic recovery path and why removal of the suspension notation is being requested;

Confirmation that all required academic success course/program requirements have been completed;

Any additional supporting information that would support the transcript petition.
Review and Decision
Eligible petitions will be reviewed by the designated Transcript Petition Review Committee.
The review will consider the student's completion of all eligibility requirements, academic performance following readmission, engagement with required academic support, and overall demonstration of academic recovery.
Meeting the minimum eligibility requirements establishes the student's eligibility to petition but does not guarantee approval.
The decision to approve or deny a petition will be communicated to the student in writing. The decision of the transcript petition is final.
Transcript Adjustment
If a Transcript Petition is approved, the academic suspension notation associated with the student's suspension period will be adjusted on the student's official academic transcript in accordance with university transcript practices.
Removal of the suspension notation does not alter:

Individual course grades;

Term or cumulative GPA;

Academic credits earned;

The student's academic history; or

Any other academic standing notation or university record unless specifically stated in the petition decision.
