Mission & Goals

These new programmatic learning goals were developed in AY 24/25 by the spring steering committee with input from the spring working groups. They were reviewed by Faculty Senate in AY 24/25, workshopped with faculty in AY 25/26, and revised by the General Education Reform Faculty and Operational Committees over the summer based on that feedback.

These goals are meant to be broad enough to inform the overall learning outcomes and values of the general education program. We have drafted Student Learning Outcomes underneath each goal and are planning general education faculty workshops for September 2026. We are presenting the Learning Goals and SLOs to Faculty Senate in October for approval. View Draft SLOs ▶

Goal 1.  Inquiry & Research: Students will develop meaningful questions and gather, analyze, and apply information to create knowledge.

Goal 2. Reasoning & Problem Solving: Students will apply critical reasoning, knowledge, and skills to address problems while considering their implications and the impact of potential solutions.

Goal 3. Civic Engagement & Social Responsibility: Students will gain insight into political and social systems to foster responsible participation in civic life in local, national, or global communities.

Goal4. Communication & Expression: Students will communicate in diverse ways to promote active participation in academic, artistic, civic, personal, and professional settings. 

Goal 5. International Perspectives & Intercultural Understanding: Students will develop an understanding of a complex, interconnected world to prepare them to participate as active members of the international community.

Goal 6. Reflection & Integration: Students will engage in self-discovery, skill-building, and reflection to foster curiosity, self-motivation, lifelong learning, and overall well-being.
