Where you'll train

Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters

Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters is the only freestanding children's hospital in Virginia. With 206 beds, it is the regional pediatric referral center for coastal Virginia and northeastern North Carolina. The hospital, a pediatric Level I trauma center, is home to the area's largest and most advanced neonatal and pediatric intensive care units, as well as the state's only acute inpatient rehabilitation unit. Fellows spend much of their training at CHKD, caring for patients in the Emergency Department and rotating with CHKD's sports medicine, orthopedics, anesthesia, transport, ultrasound, deep sedation and trauma teams. Elective rotations are available as well.

Sentara Norfolk General Hospital

Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, the primary teaching hospital for EVMS, is home to the area's only Level I trauma center and burn trauma unit and the region's premier heart program. Its active cardiology, cardiac rehabilitation, sleep medicine, epilepsy and oncology programs, as well as its heart, lung, kidney and pancreas transplant programs, make Sentara Norfolk General an ideal place for fellows to train. Fellows rotate with the trauma team and the Emergency Department treating adults during their first and second years of training.

Blue Ridge Poison Center

The University of Virginia School of Medicine's Blue Ridge Poison Center serves more than 2.4 million people in Southwest Virginia, the Shenandoah Valley and part of Southside Virginia, handling calls regarding poisonings from medicines, plants, household products, chemicals, snake bites and carbon monoxide. Fellows rotate in toxicology at this facility in Charlottesville during their second year of training.
