First Year
- Orientation: Fellows rotate with faculty daily to familiarize themselves with program (One month)
- Ultrasound: hands on training in obstetrics and gynecologic ultrasound, color and pulsed doppler application, fetal echocardiography, as well as ultrasound guided invasive (One months)
- Labor and Delivery: management of labor and delivery of high risk pregnancies (One month)
- Intensive Care Unit: hands on experience in the medical ICU on critically ill patients (One month)
- Genetics: rotation with genetic counselors and management of fetal malformation (Two months)
- Elective: may be used for research, labor and delivery, outpatient clinics, ultrasounds or other approved activity (One month)
- Antepartum: manage the antepartum unit along with supervising faculty (Two months)
- Research: research activities in the field of maternal-fetal medicine, resulting in a thesis for the graduating fellow (Two months)
Second Year
- Research: Research activities in the field of maternal-fetal medicine, resulting in a thesis for the graduating fellow (10 months)
- Elective: May be used for research, labor and delivery, outpatient clinics, ultrasounds or other approved activity (One month)
- Antepartum: Manage the antepartum unit along with supervising faculty (One month)
Third Year
- Block A: Daily rotations on ultrasound, continuity clinic, Newport News office and research (Five months)
- Block B: Daily rotations on ultrasound, continuity clinic, Virginia Beach office and research (Four months)
- Labor and Delivery: Management of labor and delivery of high risk pregnancies (One month)
- Antepartum: Manage the antepartum unit along with supervising faculty (One month)
- Elective: May be used for research, labor and delivery, outpatient clinics, ultrasounds or other approved activity (One month)
Accreditation Status
The Maternal-Fetal Medicine Fellowship is an ACGME-accredited three-year program resulting in eligibility for American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology subspecialty certification in Maternal-Fetal Medicine.
