Old Dominion University is one of the best colleges in the Southeast, according to The Princeton Review's 2022 Best Colleges: Region by Region list. ODU has been included in the list for six consecutive years.

ODU is one of 143 colleges selected from the Southeast region by the education services company, which recommends colleges in five regions: the Northeast, Southeast, Midwest, West and International. In total, 655 colleges were selected.

The Princeton Review survey asks students to rate their colleges on dozens of issues, and their comments are quoted in the school profiles.

In its profile on ODU, The Princeton Review describes the college as a "progressive, metropolitan research university" and notes, "technology is king here, and the school caters to all types of learners."

Professors were commended for gearing classes not only toward "theoretical knowledge, but real-world application." Students praised the "amount of effort professors put in to make sure everyone is successful."

ODU was also cited for its diverse and inclusive campus, with one student telling the Review, "freedom of expression is always encouraged."

Students praised the flexible course offerings, excellent lab facilities, dynamic campus environment and services, including counseling, health care and accessibility.

"We chose Old Dominion University and the other outstanding institutions on this list primarily for their academics," said Robert Franek, The Princeton Review's editor-in-chief.

He noted the company considered data from its survey of administrators at several hundred colleges in each region, information from staff visits to schools over the years, and the opinions of college counselors and advisors.

"The Princeton Review 2022 Best Colleges: Region by Region list highlights Old Dominion University's commitment to providing our students high-quality academic and research experiences both in and out of the classroom," said President Brian O. Hemphill, Ph.D. "ODU's inclusion among the best in the Southeast is a testament to the commitment of our faculty and staff to ensure Monarchs are well-prepared to lead."

Earlier this month, ODU was ranked by U.S. News & World Report in the top tier of nearly 1,500 higher education institutions evaluated, and ranked No. 132 among public universities. The University was also ranked among the top institutions for its undergraduate business, computer science, engineering and nursing programs.
