ODU Ranked Among Top Universities by U.S. News & World Report

By Amber Kennedy

Old Dominion University has again been recognized as a top-tier institution in the prestigious U.S. News & World Report's 2022 Best Colleges rankings released today.

ODU was ranked in the top tier of nearly 1,500 higher education institutions evaluated, and ranked No. 132 among public universities. For the third year, the University continues to be ranked as a top performer on social mobility, which measures an institution's success in graduating underserved students and those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

The University was also ranked among the top institutions for its undergraduate business, computer science and engineering programs at doctoral institutions.

New this year, U.S. News & World Report assessed undergraduate nursing programs, with ODU among the top 30% of schools earning rankings (No. 183 out of 645). The ranking was based solely on the judgments of deans and senior faculty members of nursing schools and departments across the country.

"The U.S. News & World Report rankings demonstrate the University's focus on delivering an accessible and affordable education with guaranteed experience for every graduate," said President Brian O. Hemphill, Ph.D. "We are proud to be recognized for our commitment to changing lives and communities through social mobility."

In May, ODU was rated 49th in the world and fourth in the nation for reducing inequalities in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings for 2021. Earlier this year, six ODU Online programs were ranked among the top 25% in the country by U.S. News & World Report, which also listed 20 of ODU's graduate programs and two colleges as among the best in the nation. The University has also been recognized as among the top 15% of U.S. colleges for overall diversity by College Factual and as a Best Online Military Friendly College by intelligent.com.
