ODU Weather Alert: Campus to Reopen Jan. 18 at 1 p.m., Classes Start at 1:30 p.m.

Keeping the safety of our students and employees in mind, Old Dominion University will reopen on Thursday, Jan. 18, with a delayed opening at 1 p.m. and classes starting at 1:30 p.m. University officials will continue monitoring weather conditions throughout the night and, if needed, will announce any additional changes to operating hours by 9 a.m. Thursday via the ODU Alerts system.

Essential personnel should report for duty as normal, unless advised otherwise by their supervisor. Other personnel may need to report for duty as requested by their supervisor.

Faculty, staff and students are urged to use their own best judgment when considering traveling to campus during times of inclement weather. For traffic and road conditions, call 511 or go to www.511virginia.org. Supervisors are asked to be liberal in approving leave for employees requesting time outside of official closings.

  • Webb University Center will be open at 7 a.m. All programming and events will resume a normal schedule when the University reopens. Televisions will be set-up throughout Webb for gaming and watching.

  • The Libraries and the Learning Commons at Perry Library will open at 10 a.m. and then resume regular operating hours.
  • All university parking garage roofs will be exit only until conditions improve.
  • Check the ODU mobile app (transit) or http://odu.edu/monarchtransit for the most up-to-date operational status of Monarch Transit,the campus shuttle, and SafeRide. Shuttle services are expected to resume normal schedules when the University reopens and when weather and road conditions permit.
  • The Student Recreation Center will open at 10 a.m. The University Fitness Center and all formal programs and activities, including swimming pool use will open and resume normal schedules when the University reopens.

Please monitor local television stations for up-to-the-minute weather information and check your ODU email or ODU's website at www.odu.edu to obtain official information about delays, cancellations and closings.
