What is the New to Blue Crew?
New to Blue, also known as the New Student Experience, is the multi-phase onboarding experience for incoming ODU students. The New to Blue Crew’s primary responsibility is welcoming new students to and through ODU! The Crew supports all phases of New to Blue, including Explore Your Kingdom (pre-orientation), Discover Your Pride (online and on-campus), and Rule Your Dominion (post-orientation).
The New to Blue Crew includes:
- Professional Staff in the New to Blue Office
- Student Staff Supervisors, known as Crew Leaders
- Student Staff, including the Monarch Orientation Leaders (MOLs)
The Crew Leader positions are filled by returning crew members, but we would love for interested, eligible students to join us in the MOL role!
Why would I be interested in joining the team?
The New to Blue Crew has the privilege of welcoming home new Monarchs. It’s a feeling that can’t be matched! If you love ODU and are looking for a way to build long-lasting relationships and new professional skills, this crew is for you.
Additionally, all New to Blue Crew roles include benefits such as a stipend, conditional housing, and swag items.
What does a typical day in the life look like for a New to Blue Crew member?
The majority of student responsibilities fall within Discover Your Pride, or the online and on-campus orientation experience.
Monarch Orientation Leaders can expect to practice their group facilitation through peer networking and icebreaker activities, put their campus trivia to use through leading tours, and connecting students and supporters with various resources on campus. We also recommend that you become familiar with Ice Cream & Cake!
Each Discover Your Pride day is a little bit different. One of the exciting things about being on the Crew is that the roles are always changing, and you never know who you might meet!
