As the division chief and fellowship director, I am privileged to introduce our program to you.

I graduated from the Temple University School of Medicine, completed my Internal Medicine residency training at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) and finished my 1st year of rheumatology fellowship at the NYU Division of Rheumatology.  After returning to UAB (to marry my fiancée), I concluded my clinical rheumatology training and underwent a research fellowship.  I served as faculty at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in Shreveport for 20 years, during which was the Rheumatology Division Chief, Director of the Center of Excellence for Arthritis and Rheumatology and the fellowship director.  I also served as the Rheumatology division chief for 10 years and fellowship director at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.

We are a new academic division, established in 2023. Our fellowship was approved by the ACGME in 2026.   Our providers are dedicated to educating rheumatology trainees in all aspects of our specialty, delivering superior evidence-based medicine and optimizing patient care in our community and region.

We are the primary rheumatology referral center for the Medicaid, Medicare and Veteran Administration patients in Hampton Roads, and are becoming the primary referral center for privately insured patients from Virginia and northern North Carolina whose physicians request timely assistance treating their patients.  Furthermore, rheumatologists in our area frequently refer their complicated patients for our input.

We provide care for adolescents when they become 18 years of age who previously received services at the Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters, allowing us to transition patients with childhood rheumatic diseases. Moreover, we are the only rheumatologists who provide consultations on patients admitted to the Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

We will enable our fellows to develop into excellent, dedicated clinicians who will uphold the highest ethical medical standards and who will make us proud to have trained them.

Thank you for considering our program for your training.
