Monarch Well-Being Ambassadors (MWAs) are student leaders who promote a culture of health and well-being at Old Dominion University. 

As peer educators and role models, MWAs engage fellow students through outreach, education, and campus-wide programming—connecting Monarchs to resources, sparking conversations, and encouraging healthy choices. 

Whether you're tabling in a residence hall, co-facilitating a workshop, or helping plan a major wellness event, MWAs play a vital role in advancing a healthy, inclusive campus community. 

As a Monarch Well-Being Ambassador, you'll have opportunities to: 

  • Promote health and well-being across campus.  

  • Engage students through presentations, outreach, and events.  

  • Support campus-wide wellness initiatives and campaigns.  

  • Collaborate with student organizations and the Student Health & Well-Being Coalition.  

  • Develop leadership, communication, facilitation, and peer education skills.  

This role is designed to help you strengthen both professional and personal skills, including: 

  • Communication and interpersonal skills  

  • Public speaking and peer engagement  

  • Group facilitation and health education  

  • Teamwork and independent work  

  • Leadership and initiative  

  • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and belonging  

Monarch Well-Being Ambassadors are paid student employees of the Office of Health Promotion. 

Positions are part-time, with scheduling designed to accommodate students' academic responsibilities. Specific compensation, hours, position requirements, and application information are included in each Handshake job posting.

We welcome applications from all majors. You might be a great fit if you: 

  • Are currently enrolled as an ODU student.  

  • Have a passion for health, wellness, and peer education.  

  • Enjoy connecting with others and creating a welcoming environment.  

  • Are interested in gaining experience in outreach, education, or programming.  

Preferred but not required: Experience with clubs, speaking, event planning, or outreach. Special consideration may be given to students majoring or minoring in public health, health education, nursing, psychology, human services, or related fields. 

Training & Professional Development

Monarch Well-Being Ambassadors receive training to prepare them to serve as peer educators and campus well-being leaders. 

 

  • Monarch Well-Being Ambassador Institute: MWAs participate in approximately six hours of training at the beginning of the fall and spring semesters to prepare for their role and strengthen their knowledge and skills. 
  • NASPA Certified Peer Educator (CPE) Training: Monarch Well-Being Ambassadors complete the NASPA Certified Peer Educator (CPE) training, a nationally recognized program designed to prepare college students for peer education and leadership roles.The approximately 12-hour training helps MWAs build foundational skills in communication, helping, leadership, decision-making, and effective peer education. 
  • Ongoing Training: Additional training and professional development opportunities are provided throughout the academic year to support continued learning, skill development, and leadership growth.
