From art studio managers to zoning administrators, professionals across every field can learn the ABCs of business and advance their careers with a newly launched graduate certificate from Old Dominion University.

This fall, the University’s Strome College of Business will begin offering its Fundamentals of Business graduate certificate, equipping professionals in any discipline with core business skills and management fundamentals.

The graduate certificate is designed for immediate career impact, while providing students the flexibility to complete the program online or in person, in as little as one semester.

“The workforce needs problem solvers and strategic thinkers driven by business-minded insights, and that’s what this graduate certificate delivers,” said Erika Marsillac, Ph.D., Strome College of Business dean.

Skills learned in the 13-credit-hour graduate certificate coursework can be applied across a variety of disciplines and industries, from learning to diagnose organizational challenges to understanding the economic forces shaping business decisions.

“Ultimately, we’re teaching people how to build high-impact, data-guided solutions to better their business or organization,” said Martin Goossen, Ph.D., associate dean for academic programs in the Strome College of Business.

Students will study organizational management, economics, spreadsheet modeling, business analytics and accounting as part of five core courses, taught by expert professors and practitioners.

Moreover, the certificate’s core courses can count toward the Strome College of Business's Master of Business Administration program if students are interested in pursuing an advanced degree upon completion.
