Peter G. Decker III ‘87

Peter G. Decker III was reappointed to the Board of Visitors on July 1, 2024, by Governor Abigail Spanberger. He was previously appointed to the Board of Visitors on July 1, 2019, by Governor Ralph Northam.

He is a well-known attorney and member of the Virginia Beach, Norfolk and Virginia State and Federal Bar Associations who has been practicing Law throughout southeastern Virginia for over 28 years, as a Partner of the prestigious Decker Law firm, which was founded in 1961 by his father Peter Decker, Jr.  

Decker is the founder and President of the Peter Decker Children's Charities Board of Directors , and serves on the Boards of Towne Bank Norfolk, Norfolk Police Foundation, Virginia Beach Police Foundation, Norfolk Police Fire/Trial Board (Chairman) , Norfolk Airport Authority (Chairman), Norfolk Public Library Foundation, Norfolk Drug Court Foundation, Norfolk Sheriff's Foundation,  Norfolk-Portsmouth Bar Association Foundation and was former Chairman of the Virginia State Board of Corrections (appointed by Governors Kaine and McDonnell).  

Additionally, Decker is a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 3548, the Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge # 28 (Associate Member), Associate of the Police Association of Virginia, and the Order of AHEPA (American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association).  

He is also the recipient of the 2025 Distinguished Service Medal as Norfolk's First Citizen.  

Decker resides in Norfolk, Virginia with his wife of 30 years, Dana Jo Decker (ODU '93).
