Faculty and staff are invited to attend a free public keynote by Shamichael Hallman on Saturday, April 18th, 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, Yetiv Auditorium, Batten Arts and Letters Building, Norfolk, Virginia.

Hallman is the author of Meet Me at the Library and Director of Civic Health and Economic Opportunity at the Urban Libraries Council. In his keynote, "Cultivating Civic Health: The Power of Public Spaces," he examines how public institutions serve as essential infrastructure for civic life — fostering social connection, bridging community divides, and sustaining democratic participation in an era of increasing isolation and polarization. His research and practice draw on library systems across the country, with implications for educators, administrators, and community-engaged professionals in any field.

The event is free and open to the public. Presented by the ODU Master of Library and Information Studies Program.
