Motivation
This experiment aims to understand the effectiveness of using knowledge gain as a metric to gauge the quality of science news articles.
Research Method
Participants are asked to answer multiple-choice questions after reading a scientific document, such as a scientific abstract, a piece of science news, or a science tweet across different domains.
Participation Requirements
- An undergraduate of CS, Data Science, ECE, or Cybersecurity at ODU
- A cumulative GPA of 2.5 and above
- Being able to read text on computer monitors
- Being able to stop by the ECS building or meet on Zoom for up to 4.5 hours (split into 3 sessions)
Compensation
Participants will be compensated with a $50 digital Amazon gift card after completing the experiments with legitimate answers
Procedure Outline
- Interested participants will receive online training by watching a short video after receiving the recruitment confirmation email.
- Interested participants will sign a consent form before working on the experiments.
- After that, a member of the LAMP-SYS lab will schedule a time to come to the ECS Building or meet on Zoom to administer the experiment.
- The student will finish the experiments in a public computer lab or on Zoom with the supervision of a lab member or the principal investigator.
- Three sessions will be scheduled, with each session lasting up to 1.5 hours (most existing participants took about 1 hour).
