Open Studio: Expressive Arts for Veterans/Veterans Project (Spring 2025)
An initiative of the Arts for Optimal Health program and Macon & Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences Counseling & Art Therapy at Old Dominion University.
The Veterans Project is a free and innovative way for veterans and active military to explore the visual arts to identify, communicate, and share experiences. Participants explore personal expression through a variety of artmaking with potential benefits of improved interpersonal skills, improved quality of life, understanding of potential post-traumatic stress, and increasing positive identity. It is encouraged that participants attend all 10 sessions for the full benefit. The open studio format will foster connections and self-expression, and will be facilitated by art therapist, Mary Roberts, PhD on Wednesdays from January 15-March 26. (not meeting on March 12)
All sessions will be held at Hermitage Museum & Gardens Goode Family Visual Arts School.
Financial support for this project is made possible by the Community Leadership Partners of the Hampton Roads Community Foundation.
