The Funding Opportunities Newsletter
You’re starting to receive a new set of funding opportunity reports via email designed to make it easier to spot grants that fit your work without having to dig through massive databases yourself.
What’s in the Email
Each funding opportunity newsletter includes curated funding searches aligned with Old Dominion University’s strategic research thrust areas.
- You’ll see up to 25 opportunities per thrust area.
- This is not an exhaustive list, but we’ve kept it concise so it’s easy to read and use.
- Each section includes a “see more” link if you want to explore additional opportunities beyond the 25 shown.
Think of this as a starting point, not the full universe of funding.
Curated Searches on the Web Site
These same searches are also included on this webpage, but this is only the first phase. A menu of additional curated searches on different topics will be added to this page soon. Your feedback will directly shape what gets built next.
Want a More Personalized Search?
If you’d like the Pivot RP team to create a custom curated search for you or your group, please send the information below to research@odu.edu to start the process. Please provide the following information in your email:
- Research area(s): __________________
- Keywords or focus topics: __________________
- Career stage (optional): __________________
- Preferred funder types (federal, foundation, industry, etc.): __________________
Set Up Ongoing Matches
You also have the option to create a researcher profile in Pivot RP using the advisor function to receive:
- Daily, weekly, or monthly funding “matches”
- Results tailored to your specific interests
- Automatic updates as new opportunities appear
This is a good option if you prefer funding alerts to come to you regularly, rather than scanning newsletters.
Where to Get Help
If you have questions, want help refining a search, or aren’t sure how to use the tools:
Wayne Hynes will be holding monthly office hours each Monday from 11:30am - 1pm in the Library Conference Rooms (1310-1311).
We’re happy to walk through examples or help translate your research focus into better search results.
Help Us Make This Better
This system improves with real feedback. Let us know:
- What’s useful
- What’s missing
- Whether the results feel too narrow or too broad
Pathway to share feedback: research@odu.edu
Even quick notes help us refine future searches and newsletters.
Getting Started with Pivot-RP:
Working with Pivot-RP Funding Opportunities:
This basic search box below draws from Pivot-RP’s comprehensive funding database and includes federal, foundation, industry, and international sponsors. Results can be filtered by keyword, discipline, sponsor type, career stage, and deadline.
Tips for effective searching:
- Start with specific keywords (e.g., “sarcoma,” “coastal resilience,” “machine learning”).
- Use quotation marks for exact phrases (e.g., “tumor microenvironment”).
- Apply filters gradually to avoid unintentionally limiting results.
- Remove restrictive filters if you receive few or no matches.
If you would like a customized, faculty-specific curated list, contact the OSRI team at research@odu.edu. We can refine searches based on your career stage, funding history, proposal timeline, and strategic goals.
