Mission
The mission of the Maternal-Fetal Medicine Fellowship is to train the academic future leaders in Maternal-Fetal Medicine with four major goals:
- Develop technical skills in obstetrical sonography with an emphasis on prenatal diagnosis, fetal echocardiography, Doppler ultrasound, and cardiovascular fetal assessment.
- Enhance surgical skills in obstetrics through involvement with complicated surgical cases, including placental abnormalities.
- Expand on knowledge and skills in Maternal-Fetal Medicine clinical practice.
- Enhance the expertise in clinical research through one-on-one mentorship in research planning and execution.
Goal Activities & Expectations
Develop your technical skills in obstetrical sonography with an emphasis on prenatal diagnosis, fetal echocardiography, Doppler ultrasound, cardiovascular fetal assessment and gynecologic sonography.

- First Trimester Ultrasound Clinic
- Weekly US education session with fellowship director
Expectations
- ARDMS Physics Certification by end of your first year
- ARDMS OB/GYN Certification by end of your second year
- ARDMS Fetal Echo Certification by end of your third year
- Cervical Length Certification
- NT Certification
- Amniocentesis
- CVS training (transabdominal and transvaginal)
- Fetal transfusions
- Fetal interventions (reduction, shunts, etc.)

Activities

- Expert MFM faculty in surgical obstetrics
- All accreta cases performed by MFM faculty
Expectations
- Accreta clinic run by senior MFM fellows

- Continuity MFM clinic for three years
- Direct supervision by MFM faculty
- Assigned reading for three years
- One-on-one training in diabetes in pregnancy (First and third year)
Augment your expertise in clinical research through one-on-one mentorship in research planning and execution.
Activities
- Topic chosen by Jan of your first year
- IRB approval by April of your first year
- Recruitment completed by May of your second year
- Thesis published by December of your third year
- Thesis defense in January of your third year

Accreditation Status
The Maternal-Fetal Medicine Fellowship is an ACGME-accredited three-year program resulting in eligibility for American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology subspecialty certification in Maternal-Fetal Medicine.
