Providing training in emergency care to mitigate health disparities in vulnerable populations abroad.
Our Mission:
We promote global health focused on caring for vulnerable populations through collaborative learning. To accomplish this, we train and partner with international and local colleagues to provide quality emergency care in limited-resource settings.
Broaden your horizons
Global Emergency Medicine is a dynamic field in our specialty that focuses on the health of populations and individuals in varying resourced settings and environments. Our program aims to train fellows to support practical partnerships with emergency medicine providers locally and abroad through:
- Educational partnerships around the world focusing on developing Emergency Medicine infrastructure:
- Educational opportunities and exploration of knowledge exchange between EM settings
- Quality Improvement and Patient Safety focus
- Process evaluation that serves the benefit of the site
- Faculty and trainee mentoring
- In places where EM is not recognized as a specialty, we support our colleagues who recognize the value of emergency medicine in their communities
- Encourage collaboration and innovation in emergency care delivery
A supportive environment
Work-life balance is important during your fellowship, and we are committed to supporting our fellows throughout their time here. Our residents and fellows receive the same wellness resources as our faculty and staff.
In addition, residents and fellows get access to support groups, after-hours counseling services, running clubs, leadership coaching and more.
Wellness in Emergency Medicine
Emergency Medicine provides added support for trainees through our departmental Wellness and Resilience Committee.
Faculty members mentor one trainee at each level. Residents and fellows get to know their mentors and each other across all levels of training, attending activities such as baseball games, group dinners, ice cream socials and more.
